Air Conditioner FAQs
What goes into installing a new AC system?
When the decision is made to install a new air conditioner, we can guide the home or business owner to help choose the right size and SEER rating for their situation. When installing a central air conditioning unit, the site of the outdoor unit is an important consideration, to prevent unnecessary noise in living spaces and overgrowth by foliage. Once installed, we can also provide periodic maintenance to keep the unit in top condition for many years.
How does central air conditioning work?
Central air conditioning consists of a compressor, condenser and evaporator coils that work together in a closed loop to pull the heat from the home and replace it with cooled air. The system works with coolant and uses many of the same indoor components as the heater to deliver the cooled air.
Why should I replace an old AC?
By replacing old inefficient air conditioners with new central air conditioning units, you can save a lot of money in cooling costs. It is estimated that increasing the SEER rating from 11.5 to 13 could save you over $500 each year in cooling costs.
Boss HVAC can replace your air conditioning system, whether it's a commercial or a residential unit. While we don't recommend replacement lightly, newer air conditioning systems have made great strides in efficiency, making them functionally capable of paying for themselves when compared to the cost of continuing to operate an older unit.
How do I select a new air conditioner?
The great thing about hiring Boss HVAC is that we will use our technology, tools, and expertise to help you find the best possible unit for your home. We will make it easy for you to make the best choice based on the existing ductwork, insulations, and other conditions specific to your situation.
What are some of the other benefits of central AC?
Central AC provides an aesthetically attractive climate control option. Nothing hangs on the wall or in the window. Central AC will clean the air by filtering out pollutants such as dust and pet dander, lower humidity in the home, and add to your home’s resale value.
How long will a new air conditioner unit last?
With regular maintenance, the unit will last longer and function better than one which is neglected. The amount of usage is a factor. The size, type of system, and brand will also make a difference, as some brands have a longer lifespan than others. A homeowner who has regular professional maintenance changes the filter dutifully, keeps the outdoor unit free from debris and pays close attention to any changes in the sounds and changes in the operation of the unit is likely to get more years out of their unit. That said, a unit can last anywhere from 8 to 15 years.
Is annual AC maintenance necessary?
Air conditioning maintenance provides the opportunity for a full-system check, and cleaning of the components a homeowner can’t reach. An assessment of the system will provide the homeowner with the information required to make wise decisions about the air conditioning system. Maintenance also reveals minor problems which can be corrected before they turn into major repairs or cause system failure at an inopportune time. We offer maintenance checks for all major air conditioning brands.
